Static IP: Product Overview

Purpose

Small businesses (1 - 100 employees) represent Time Warner Cable Business Class' market. There has been significant demand from Time Warner Cable Business Class customers to provide a solution that will enable the provisioning and assignment of Static Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for their critical business server needs. These IP addresses are not subject to the same dynamic assignment and renewal policies of residential customers.

The current Time Warner Cable Business Class solution has been developed and tested with various Cisco routing devices. Time Warner Cable Business Class is also evaluating alternate products with various vendors to develop optional, commercially viable solutions.

Description
The Time Warner Cable Business Class Static IP product offers an assignment of the same IP address for the lifetime of the Time Warner Cable Business Class contract (with some provisions for renumbering IP address space maintained by Time Warner Cable Business Class). In the event of a move or renumbering of IP addresses, Time Warner Cable Business Class will provide a thirty day notice to accommodate changes that may occur on the customer network. The permanent, public IP address is portable at anytime to other servers at the customer's discretion. A cable router is provided as part of this service to enable the routing of these customer static IP addresses to the Time Warner Cable Business Class network and the public Internet. The Static IP product provides the capability for small businesses to connect their business application servers (web/e-commerce site, e-mail, VPN/firewall termination device, etc.) via the Time Warner Cable Business Class Service.

For the deployment of this service, Time Warner Cable Business Class has partnered with Cayman, Cisco, and ZyXel who offer Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) based products to work in conjunction with the Time Warner Cable Business Class Static IP solution. These products include modems from these manufacturers: Cayman, Cisco, ZyXel and Ambit.

Potential Customers
Static IP customers are small businesses (fewer than one hundred employees) that run one or more of the following services:

• Firewall
• FTP server
• Mail system server
• VPN software and server
• Other application servers
